One Week. Still No Apology or Remorse

Last Friday, under the direction of our commander-in-chief, our military dropped bombs in the sovereign nation of Pakistan, killing 18 civilians, including women and children.

It's Thursday now. Still, our President has not apologized or even offered a statement of remorse on behalf of the innocent victims who perished. Pakistan is pissed, and rightfully so.

Whether the strike successfully killed Ayman al-Zawahiri or not is totally unimportant in this matter. We killed 18 innocent people. We owe the world an apology, at the minimum.

Without showing any remorse, we have now become exactly what we detested four (4) years ago. In essence, we have become the terrorist.

Like I stated on Sunday, it makes no difference if a bomb is strapped to a person or falling from a plane, if we are killing innocent people without remorse, we have become the terrorists. Plain and simple.

Frankly, I've been amazed at how the blogosphere has been almost silent on this matter. Are people scared of being seen as some "Hanoi Jane" character? I don't care how I'm viewed. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. And last Friday, as a nation, we were wrong, BIG TIME! Our leader should step up and apologize. Our leader should show some compassion. And we should not be afraid to speak up for what is right.

Our president is like the pope...infalliable...they don't make mistakes...so you can't have an apology or remorse, because there was no mistake...

If you are lucky, you might get an oops, or we know there were some terrorist there...

Our president is like the pope... infalliable

Except that the pope knows how to speak.. in several languages!

You know, there's not much going on anywhere about this--even my talk radio. I think people are just so disgusted and there are so many other issues to be up in arms that we aren't even thinking about this one.

Of course, did anyone really think he would apologize? I realize that doesn't make it right, but perhaps there's a bit of resignation around that an apology isn't something we're going to get...

But National Assembly member from Bajur Sahibzada Haron ur Rashid rejected the government claim and media reports about the killing of foreigners and said only locals died in the attack.

"Reports about the killing of foreigners are being spread to mislead the public opinion to cool down anger among the local people," he said.

Well *I* think it is disgusting and outrageous. But this sort of thing has gone on regularly since we started bombing Afghanistan after 9/11 and 99% people don't give a shit. All they care about is payback. Everyone is gripped with war-fever since 9/11. There is mass insanity going on.

I think people are too self centered and dont give a damn about whats going on in the world, as long as they are good, and enjoying the good life while others suffer; they dont give a damn

Unfortunately, it would seem that a lot of people need explicit directions on what to be 'outraged' about.
