Dick Gets Fingered.....for Torture

In an NPR radio interview on November 3, 2005, former Bush administration official Col. Laurence Wilkerson pinned the blame for the torture committed at Abu Ghraib squarely on Vice President Dick Cheney. You can hear the interview HERE.

So far, only French newspaper Le Monde has picked up on Wilkerson's public statement. Check it out.

If your French is rusty, here is a rough translation using Babel Fish (Pardon the sometimes incoherent translation...Babel Fish isn't perfect.):

The office of the American vice-president Dick Cheney is at the origin of the directives having led American soldiers to torture prisoners in Iraq and in Afghanistan, affirmed, Thursday, a former high person in charge for the State Department.

Colonel Laurence Wilkerson, who was a principal private secretary of the former Secretary of State Colin Powell declared, on the waves of the public radio (NPR) which it had found trace of a series of memos and directives authorizing torture, addressed to the Defence Department by the collaborators of Dick Cheney. These directives contradicted another directive of president George W. Bush, ordering with the American army to respect the convention of Geneva which prohibits such practices.

"There was a visible trace energy of the vice-presidency to the commanders on the ground, while passing through the secretary with defense, to authorize torture in order to obtain information on the ground", affirmed colonel Wilkerson. "the directives, it indicated, were written in careful terms, but they did not give any less the commanders on the ground freedom to act, which led to many cases of abuse counters prisoners". According to him, "If you are a soldier of career, you know that similar things are not allowed."

"LAWYER SOLVED FOR THE RECOURSE TO TORTURE" [< ----I have a feeling this is not an accurate translation.]

It added that Mr. Powell, when he was a Secretary of State, had asked him, after the scandal of the prison of Abou Ghraïb, to inquire to discover how torture had become an instrument of the American policy.

Washington Post had revealed last week that Mr. Cheney intervened recently with the Senate to obtain that the CIA is exempted obligation to respect a bill prohibiting abroad the use of torture.

According to Mr. Wilkerson, the new principal private secretary of Dick Cheney, David Addington, who was up to now legal adviser vice-presidency, was a "lawyer solved" to authorize the recourse to torture. He as affirmed as Mr. Cheney had created the national Council of safety "(a)" espionnant and sapping the work carried out by the national council of safety of president Bush. He added that the members of this council had ceased resorting to the electronic mails by discovering that the collaborators of Mr. Cheney peeled their messages.

It in addition estimated that the former chief of the CIA, George Tenet "had not had courage" to inform the services of Dick Cheney of his doubts about the existence of weapons of massive destruction in Iraq or on the efforts of Saddam Hussein to obtain.

So there you have it. A former Bush administration official is coming out and pointing fingers at the Cheney cabal for the torture at Abu Ghraib. I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Yeah me too if it doesn't get swept under the rug.

Hey there Bulldog... Seems we've been tripping over to each others sites enough so I thought I'd link you from club lefty... If you'd do the same that'd be great :P

Right now there are 2 things this gang are shooting for. The mid terms, which may already be past fixing with the vote programs. If Democrats take the either body of congress, and I fully expect at least the house will switch if not the senate, (assuming there isnt MASSIVE and transparent fraud at the polls which I don't put past them) there are going to investigations that will make the Watergate hearings look like nothing. The 2nd goal of the cabal is simply surviving without going to the pokey until Bush leaves in 09 amid a flurry of pardons. I'd nearly rather see nothing legal happen to Cheney until 08, just so he could be held accountable with a full measure of punishment. Assuming he doesn't keel over in the meantime. I can't help but wonder what they will do to keep the reins of power. They have to know once they lose that grip this all comes out, and that would be simply devastating for their ideology.

whatever it takes to get the info
