Treasongate's Relationship to the Downing Street Memos
Let us not forget, this entire Karl Rove scandal (aka Treasongate) is all about the Bush administration's series of lies which took this nation to war in Iraq. In fact, "Treasongate" deals with the worst lie of them all-- the lie which falsely accused Iraq of trying to buy uranium from Niger for an eventual nuclear bomb. Even the CIA later said that the President had no business making that claim. So when the Bush administration smeared Joe Wilson and outed his wife, Valerie Plame, they were doing it because Joe Wilson was justifiably criticizing the most dramatic portion of the Bush administration's case for taking out Saddam, the potential "mushroom cloud".
You see, Treasongate goes hand-in-hand with everything we have learned from the Downing Street Memo. And vice versa, the Downing Street Memo corroborates the motive for Karl Rove's outing of Valerie Plame-- essentially "the facts and intelligence [were] being fixed around the policy" of invading Iraq.
So when you see the RNC chairman babbling on about the subtle nuance between "naming" and "identifying" a CIA operative, or when you see the Bush supporters pointing their dirty fingers back at Joe Wilson, or when you see the president back-pedaling from his prior positions, just remember-- there was no uranium, there were no WMDs, Joe Wilson was right, and the Bush administration used the outing of Valerie Plame to silence Joe Wilson as part of their policy to fix the "facts and intelligence...around the policy".

I keep reading about how the American public is not going to put up with this and yet, the American public keeps putting up with it. Bush knows they are bigger idiots than he is and when people squawk he blames the "liberal" media and the Democrats. It's appalling that the American people are really that stupid.

jay777: LOL. What does Sandy Berger have to do with this? Yes, what he did was terrible. But its like saying, "Yeah, I spilled the paint, but Billy once stole a candybar." Its completely irrelevant to this subject.
You only bring up Berger to 1) Show that democrats can also be deceitful, 2) to change the subject.
But your Berger reference does nothing to rebut the Rove matter on its own merits.
Peace by Equity: Thank you. :-)

Right-wing Americans need to get out from under the GOP Kool-Aid thermos and see reality. NeoCons are AGAINST America, not FOR it. Their policies only support their own agendas and those of their sponsors. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to cut back on Kool-Aid.

I love it when the pubs go back to these " but clinton got a blowjob" speeches to cover their inane behaviors.

Once again you are beating the horse before it's dead. You would have done much better to wait until the case is further along than to blame Bush for every little problem in the world.
The British MI6 is still standing behind their inteligence that Saddam was after Uranium in Niger.
A real "covert" CIA Agent doesn't have her picture taken by Vanity Fair with her husband. A truly covert CIA agent doesn't give money to a political campaign with her fake name, thus outing who she is.
Valerie Plame is a second-rate CIA agent who couldn't get her husband or her own mouth shut about her status. Shouldn't you be focusing on something more important, like the open borders, today's lackluster intel gathering against terrorist threats...

anonymous,
LOL. Were you reading straight from the talking points there? So let me get this right, because Valerie Plame appeared in Vanity Fair after she was already outed and no longer covert, that justifies her being outed?
Wow, thats amazing. You are purely using subsequent facts to justify prior conduct. Thats a new one...very entertaining!

Bulldog - Nice post.
I have been meaning to do one of my own on the same subject but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it is important that we start tying the Downing Street Memo to Treason Gate as you have done, as its really all the same thing.
I see that the GOPers don't like the message as usual. They don't seem to understand that Treasongate is a criminal investigation of the White House instigated by the CIA, and involves what we commonly define as treason. Although there is obviously a political spin that can be put on this by both sides, it really doesn't matter in the end what dems think, or for that mattter, what GOPers think. If White House officials get indited, they will probably end up going to jail. The federal judge who is the special investigator was appointed by George Bush Senior, and he means business. I don't envision this case as one where the Johnny Cochran defense will work. Every time a GOPer trys to defend, deflect, or misslead on this issue, they are only illustrating that they are putting their (corrupt) party before our country and national defense.
