Bush Wants "Further Study" Regarding His Own Accountability

On June 29, 2005, President Bush's administration took action to implement the WMD Commission's recommendations. The WMD Commission was formed pursuant to Executive Order 13328 in order to address the myriad "intelligence failures" the Bush administration claims resulted in the misdiagnosis of Iraq's WMD program, or better yet, the lack of WMD program.

As far as we can tell, the WMD commission came back with 68 recommendations. Of those 68 recommendatons, the Bush administration has agreed to follow 65 recommendations.

Funny thing though, as it relates to the very last recommendation, the Bush administration held that "Further Study" was needed.

The final recommendation reads:
"The Director of National Intelligence should hold accountable the organizations that contributed to the flawed assessments of Iraq's WMD programs."

Why would the White House need "further study" in order to determine whether it is sound policy to "hold accountable those organizations that contributed to the flawed assessments of Iraq's WMD programs"? Is it possible that the White House doesn't want to execute the last recommendation because it would mean that former Head of the CIA George Tenet would be accountable? And didn't he win the "Medal of Freedom"? I suppose that would be embarassing, considering the President bestowed that medal on him.

Is it possible that the White House doesn't want to execute the last recommendation because it would mean holding itself accountable? Ah hah! BINGO!

Something tells me that this administration will need more time than they have available to "further study" this matter.

Bush can have all the time he wants. Especially after he is impeached. He can sit in a rocking chair on his porch in Crawford and think about it all day.

He can also reflect on the 1700+ Soldiers dead, 15,000 wounded, and 25,000 dead Iraqis.

Im very glad i stumbled across this blog. Keep up the good work.
This is now on my list of daily reads.

I think it's because there are too many to be held accountable. Remember what Clinton and most democrats said about WMD's when Clinton bombed the crap out of Iraq in 1998????? Gotcha!

Ottmann,

Actually, you didn't get me. There is a big difference between Clinton's bombing of Iraq and the War we have now. Actually, there are over 1700 dead "differences", 20,000 wounded "differences", and a difference that can last 12 years or maybe even a generation.

The only thing you have is radical right propaganda.

I am getting the feeling that the Radical Right is starting to spin its wheels a little bit. First of all, has anyone else noticed that Fox News is not really reporting news any more? Their focus has been almost all on "infotainment" type stories. Secondly, nearly all the Radical Right Attack Dogs are harkening back to Clinton as a defense for GW Bush. I think we have them on the ropes but we have to remain clear and steadfast with our arguments and points.

Mr. RNC: "So what if we bombed Iraq prior to the invasion, Clinton bombed Iraq in 98' and you didn't complain about it then?"

PoliShifter: "Clinton may have bombed Iraq but he didn't lie to the people about Saddam's Links to Al Qaeda and he most certainly did not lead an ill planned invasion into Iraq resulting in 1700 US soldiers dead, 15,000 US soldiers wounded, and 25,000 Iraqis being killed."

Mr. RNC: "So what if GW Bush was planning the invasion of Iraq. Clinton had plans to invade Iraq too. Infact, the State Department drew up plans to deal with a post-war Iraq. The pre-planning of the Iraq War is just an extension of the Clinton Administration."

PoliShifter: "Again that is not the issue. The issue is that Bush told the American People there were links between 9/11 and Saddam, links between Al Qaeda and Saddam, that Saddam had WMD, and that Saddam was an imminent threat to the United States. All of this was a lie. It was not "faulty" intelligence. The Downing Street Minutes clearly indicate that the United States was going to fix the intelligence facts around the Bush Administration's premise for going to war with Iraq. And why didn't we follow that post war plan?"

Hmmm. If he needs more time, maybe we should repeal the 22nd amendment, elect him for a third term, then impeach him.

No, on second thought, I couldn't stand it, even if it worked.
