Bush Wants "Further Study" Regarding His Own Accountability

On June 29, 2005, President Bush's administration took action to implement the WMD Commission's recommendations. The WMD Commission was formed pursuant to Executive Order 13328 in order to address the myriad "intelligence failures" the Bush administration claims resulted in the misdiagnosis of Iraq's WMD program, or better yet, the lack of WMD program.

As far as we can tell, the WMD commission came back with 68 recommendations. Of those 68 recommendatons, the Bush administration has agreed to follow 65 recommendations.

Funny thing though, as it relates to the very last recommendation, the Bush administration held that "Further Study" was needed.

The final recommendation reads:
"The Director of National Intelligence should hold accountable the organizations that contributed to the flawed assessments of Iraq's WMD programs."

Why would the White House need "further study" in order to determine whether it is sound policy to "hold accountable those organizations that contributed to the flawed assessments of Iraq's WMD programs"? Is it possible that the White House doesn't want to execute the last recommendation because it would mean that former Head of the CIA George Tenet would be accountable? And didn't he win the "Medal of Freedom"? I suppose that would be embarassing, considering the President bestowed that medal on him.

Is it possible that the White House doesn't want to execute the last recommendation because it would mean holding itself accountable? Ah hah! BINGO!

Something tells me that this administration will need more time than they have available to "further study" this matter.

When Does Loving the Flag Become Flag Idolatry?

Sitting there last night, watching George W. Bush give his speech in front of the Army at Fort Bragg, I marveled at the amount of flags on stage with George W. Bush.

Now, I grew up loving that flag. I pledged allegiance to that flag every day at school. Since 9/11, however, I've been seeing a lot more of that flag, and I'm starting to wonder, has our love for the flag become a sick obsession?

Wikipedia says that:
"A flag is a piece of cloth flown from a pole or mast, usually intended for signaling or identification. Flags were initially created for signalling (as in semaphore), and for the identification of those who displayed them, and are still used for that purpose today. Flags are also used in messaging or advertising, or for decorative purposes, though at this less formal end the distinction between a flag and a simple cloth banner is blurred. Generally, a piece of cloth is a flag if it is flown like a flag, with one side attached, though many flags are recognisable if displayed in other forms.
The flag is merely a symbol identifying our nation. As a symbol, it represents the various people who make up our nation and the various (changing) beliefs that represent our nation. As such, every person sees that flag in a different way, typically, as a reflection of their own respective view of the Nation, as a whole. Some see it without fault. Others see it without merit. Many, like me, see it somewhere in between.

And then there are some who wrap themselves in the flag in a way that wreaks of idolatry. Idolatry is defined as: 1. Worship of idols. 2. Blind or excessive devotion to something.

When I see over fifteen flags on stage with the President, I gotta think "it seems a bit excessive." And thats okay, I suppose. But when that collective obsession attempts to kill the mother which gave birth to the symbol, namely Freedom, then we have a problem akin to matricide.

Last week, the House passed the Flag Amendment which would make burning a flag unconstitutional. Apart from the nightmarish logistical problem of discerning what will be considered a flag for the sake of this Draconian mandate, I believe the very fact that this amendment has passed the House (again), is a sign that our flag "love" has become flag obsession or better yet, flag idolatry.

Now tell me, in a land that cherishes freedom, when we outlaw the free expression of flag burning and turn democratic dissenters into prison worthy criminals, hasn't our love become a tad bit excessive? When you love something, you do not hug it until it can no longer breath. You let it breathe.

Freedom needs to breathe.

The Speech George W. Bush SHOULD Make Tonight

"Hello ladies and gentlemen. Its nice to be here at Fort Bragg, home of the Army's elite 82nd Airborne division.

"Its time to be honest with America. The War in Iraq is a lost cause. Actually, its probably fair to say, this war was lost from the outset. And its not the fault of the fine people in our armed forces, it is my fault, and the fault of my administration.

"This all goes back to September 11, 2001. We failed America then. I'm not sure if the American public knows this, but prior to September 11, there was plenty of actionable intelligence pointing to the fact there would be an impending terrorist attack using commercial airliners, but we failed America. We did nothing about it. I was simply doing what I thought a good president does, like when FDR did nothing about Pearl Harbor, even though he knew exactly when the Japanese were going to attack us in 1941.

"You see, we thought it was a great idea for America to go to war in Iraq long before I was President. But we knew that the American public didn't really want to go to war in 2001. So we kind of just let the chips fall where they may. Kinda like FDR did. And when it turned out, as I was reading "My Pet Goat" to a classroom of little children on the morning of 9/11, that the chips fell on both World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania....well, we knew that America was going to be more willing to go to War in the Middle East.

"But yet, there were some of us who thought maybe this was not enough. So the CIA and the NSA used a friend of ours at Fort Derrick in Maryland, and they devised a cute little plan to send Anthrax spores exactly one week after the 9/11 attacks to certain left wing media folk, and a couple of liberal Senators. We thought, at the time, that we could blame all of this Anthrax stuff on Al-Qaeda or Iraq. We never thought the FBI would link the anthrax attack back to a government insider..

"But that didn't stop us, when we sent Colin Powell to the United Nations, waiving a vile of faux-Anthrax, and making a case for going to war against Iraq.

"We didn't think it was worth mentioning that the former Anthrax attacks were committed by an American, not an Iraqi. After all, we wanted a war in Iraq. And whatever it took to make that happen, we were willing to fix the facts and the intelligence around the policies..

"We trumpeted false stories about yellow cake, nuclear rods and went so far as to scare the American public into believing that if we didn't invade Iraq, the result could be a "mushroom cloud" on American soil. Considering what the American public went through on 9/11, the American public wasn't willing to take any chances.

"Its time for your President to come clean about all of this. I just cannot live with myself anymore. At first, I just thought it was cool to be one of the big boys, like my dad, like Dick Cheney, and I kinda started believing the stuff we were saying.

"But after the thousands of dead Americans, and no end in the war in sight, its time to come clean of all my transgressions. OK, maybe not all of them, but enough of them for now. As of today, I call on the Vice President to resign his position immediately. I herewith terminate my entire cabinet. I am also resigning my position and place myself into the custody of the military police for prosecution for my many war crimes against humanity.

"I am very sorry. I deserve any punishment this great nation decides to impose. Speaking of punishment, my last act as president will be to immediately order the closing of our torture facilities, including the prisons throughout Iraq, in Southern Jordan, and Guantanomo Bay.

"I ask the international community to forgive the deeds of this administration and recognize that America is not George W. Bush, America is the PEOPLE! When those terrorists hijacked those planes, I hijacked the country. Never forget that the American people were just along for the ride as I tried to fly the plane straight into hell.

"Good night, and may God bless America"

Author of the Flag Burning Amendment Takes Bribes

If you haven't heard, Randy "Duke" Cunningham is the Republican Congressman for District 50 (North County of San Diego) in California. He is the same bozo who authored the fascist Flag Burning Amendment. He is the same bozo who used the victims of the Septmeber 11 tragedy to support his bill:
``Ask the men and women who stood on top of the Trade Center,'' said Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham, R-Calif. ``Ask them and they will tell you: 'Pass this amendment.'''
The Guardian, June 23, 2005.

Well, it turns out that good ole' Duke has been supporting his pocket book a bit more than he has been supporting the troops. In 2003, Cunningham, sold his house in Del Mar to defense contractor Mitchell Wade for $1.6 million. Nine months later, Wade sold the same house for $900,000, a $700,000 loss! (If you know anything about the real estate market in San Diego county in 2003, you know this is shady.)

During the same time period, Wade saw his firm's defense contracts skyrocket. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Cunningham just happens to be a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee for Defense! What a coincidence, eh? To add insult to injury, Cunningham currently lives on Wade's yacht anchored on the Potomac. The name of the Yacht is...(yeah, it gets better)... The Duke Stir.

Sure smells like bribery, doesn't it?? An investigation has begun.

Well, its time this fat pig be taken out behind the shed. We call on Congress to investigate this highly questionable transaction, and to take action as indicated by such investigation, including Congressional censure. Please sign the PETITION TO REBUKE DUKE!

Anthrax-- Terrorist Plot Against the Left?

Does anybody else find this quite odd? One week after the 9-11 attacks, somebody or some group, mailed a bunch of letters containing lethal anthrax spores to two Democrat United States Senators, as well as, certain media outlets and anchormen who the ultra-right have repeatedly accused of being "too liberal," including Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and the New York Times.

Immediately after the attacks, the country was lead to believe that the anthrax attacks were possibly the work of Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein. And while that perception existed, the Anthrax story was front page news.

Then, after an FBI investigation, it was learned that Anthrax spores came from a United States Army Laboratory. It was also learned that the suspect was most likely a "government insider". It was also learned, that the Anthrax attack must have been planned, to a large extent, prior to September 11!

But for some strange reason (or maybe not very strange at all!), the Anthrax story vanished from our radar.

We know a few things from the FBI investigations, however. One, the Anthrax spores were a strain that came from the United States, most likely from Fort Detrick (yes...the United States Army!). Two, the anthrax was mailed from the United States. Three, the anthrax was mailed to liberal/democrat Senators only. No conservative Senators were targeted. Four, anthrax was mailed to media parties who, prior to the attack, were accused of being "liberal" (e.g. Dan Rather, the New York Times) and media who were accused of being too hard on Bush's family (National Enquirer). For good measure, one hoax letter, however, was sent to Fox News. (a red herring?). Lastly, we know that the anthrax "attacks" had to be planned in advance of 9-11.

This story hasn't even been mentioned in the news in the past few years. How could that be possible? How can a terrorist attack originating at a United States Army Base against certain Liberal American figures be forgotten?

Was it a coincidence that the anthrax attacks took place within a week of 9-11?
And is it a coincidence that after 9-11 and the anthrax mailings, George W. Bush managed to take this country into war against Iraq? Is it surprising that most liberals were too weakened after 9-11 and the anthrax attacks to stand up to the president as he unveiled a ridiculously weak case for war against Iraq?

One last bit of news to make your head spin-- did you know that the White House (including Bush, Cheney, and the Cabinet) were given the antibiotic CIPRO on September 11, seven (7) days prior to the date the anthrax letters were even mailed? 9-11 didn't involve anthrax, it involved planes. Why would they do such a thing?

Liberal for a Day....Alan Greenspan?

If Alan Greenspan, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, is admitting that the income gap between the rich and the rest of the US population has become "so wide, and is growing so fast, that it might eventually threaten the stability of democratic capitalism itself," perhaps there is some hope that the Empire can be saved from the dark side of the force.

Has Alan Greenspan become a liberal, tofu eating, Birkenstock wearing pinko-commie? Not quite. Perhaps the problem is so bad that even the most staunchest of right-wing free market-fundamentalists cannot ignore the obvious. And why would Greenspan care about the disparity of wealth? Because he knows, when the gap widens enough, there will be hell to pay!

Does we truly want to catch Osama Bin Laden?

Today, it has been reported that Taliban officials are claiming that Osama Bin Laden is alive and well.

Seven days after 9-11, on September 18, 2001, George W. Bush announced that the US wanted Bin Laden "Dead or Alive". After nearly four (4) years, with nearly 18,000 troops in Afghanistan, we still haven't found him. Why?

Is it that we dont have the technology? Doubtful. Is it that we don't have enough manpower hunting him down? Perhaps. But its hard to believe that the most famous man has managed to elude an international crime network and a strong military presence. Does it have to do with the fact that we don't have any single person in charge of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden? Thats a possibility. But why?

Consider for a second that the "War on Terrorism" is a war that cannot end. After all, the day we admit to ourselves that the war is over, that is the we are most susceptible to another terrorist strike because our guard will be down. As such, don't we need an enemy? Don't we really need the "bad guy" to antagonize us? How could we have a war against the idea of terror? We cannot. But we can have a war against an illusive organization that has a face! And what better face than Osama Bin Laden.

If we caught or killed Bin Laden, would our President be able to rally this country behind his policies of fear? Would we have let him go to war in Iraq in 2002 if we didn't have the fear of 9-11 and Osama Bin Laden? Would Geoerge W. Bush have been re-elected if this country wasn't scared to death of the possibility of another terrorist attack? In essence, isn't Bin Laden the fuel for our nation's collective will to fight the "war on terror"?

In the theater, you don't catch or kill the bad guy until the final act of the play. Bin Laden cannot be caught or killed until the people have become so fed up with the way the "war on terror" has taken our nation by hostage that they begin to throw tomatoes at the stage!

Who is General Smedley Butler?

I doubt many people have heard of General Smedley Butler.

In short, General Butler is one of the United State's most decorated generals of all-time. He served over thirty (30) years in the United States Marine Corps. In that time, he won two (2) Medals of Honor. He was so beloved, General Douglas MacArthur named a miltary base after him in Okinawa, Japan. To this day, the base is still named after General Butler.

But, the military doesn't like to talk about something General Butler said after he retired. In 1935, General Butler said:

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.

I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902–1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested.

During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

These days, the United States military still acts as the "high class muscle man" for Big Business. Bechtel. Halliburton. The oil companies. All of the American business interests that are now flocking into Iraq. We aren't fighting for "freedom", we are fighting to make more money! If "freedom" should be a side effect, thats just swell. If not, thats just swell too.

If you believe the War in Iraq isn't about American money, you need your head checked.

Is anybody as disgusted as I am?

Whoppers and Gorditas...we won!

Well, it only took about 1,700 American lives, and hundreds of thousands of others lives, for members of the GOP to realize that we need to get the heck out of Iraq!

It will be funny to see how they try to spin the Iraqi War as a positive thing for the United States, even though we are leaving that country in far worse shape than when we got there.

Weapons of mass destruction= NONE.
Al-Qaeda ties to Iraq prior to invasion= NONE.
Al-Qaeda ties to Iraq after invasion= See Zarqawi and his band of terrorists.

What did we get out of Iraq? Well, we managed to completely wreck one of the most advanced countries in the Middle East. We managed to create a second Afghanistan. We managed to ruin our reputation by committing well-documented atrocities. We managed to further ruin the credibility of the United Nations and international law. We managed to strengthen Iran's influence throughout the Middle East. We managed to give the actual terrorists more fodder for recruitment. We managed to divide this country in a way like we have not seen in 30 or 40 years.

Winners? There are no winners here. Oh wait, I hear that Bechtel and Halliburton are having record-setting years in terms of profits. I hear that there is a Popeye's Chicken, Burger King, and Taco Bell in Baghdad now. God knows, the Iraqi people have been dying for the freedom to eat Whoppers and Gorditas!

George Bush Consults with Exxon re: Global Warming

So, it turns out that our fine President consulted with Exxon about our nation's global warming policies prior to rebuking the Kyoto Protocol.

Asking Exxon for advice regarding environment policy is like asking a rapist for advice on how to have good foreplay!

Coming on the heals off the Downing Street Memo, its now becoming abundantly obvious that the current administration has officially sold its soul to the devil.
